Consumers may find their attempts at debt management squeezed as Virgin Media increases the cost of its broadband helpline.
From July 1st, the telecoms firm will change its customer service line from a local rate 0845 number to a premium rate 09 dialing code.
As a result, calls will now cost at least 25p per minute in addition to a 10p connection charge, reports SimplySwitch.com.
With a ten-minute call costing £2.60, those who regularly phone Virgin Media may see their attempts at making personal loan repayments squeezed as making 12 calls over the course of a year will set back customers some £31.20.
Founder of SimplySwitch.com Karen Darby said: "If a customer is likely to require hours upon hours of technical support, Virgin Media may not be the ideal provider for them."
However, she advised consumers that instead of looking purely on price, Britons should take the time to analyse various elements of telecoms suppliers’ services to make sure they getting the best deal possible.
Last week, Which? editor Neil Fowler claimed premium rate numbers are "a stealth tax of the worst kind" as such expensive calls consumers could find their ability to make repayments on personal Loans and other borrowing curbed.
